NASED Celebrates National Voter Registration Day
For Immediate Release
September 22, 2020
WASHINGTON, DC – Today is National Voter Registration Day, which is dedicated to encouraging voter participation and increasing public awareness about state requirements for voting. The National Association of State Election Directors (NASED) celebrates this day and reminds voters about the importance of registering to vote or reviewing their voter registration record:
“In August 2017, the members of the National Association of State Election Directors passed a resolution establishing the fourth Tuesday of September as National Voter Registration Day. Although much has changed since then, our commitment to encouraging voter registration has not, and the need for public information and education on voter registration is more critical than ever.
We encourage eligible citizens to take a few minutes today to register to vote or review their voter registration information. Checking that your voter registration information is correct and updating it now, if necessary, will make sure that you are ready to cast your ballot this November.
If you are already registered to vote and your information is correct, use today as your opportunity to plan how you will cast your ballot for November. If you prefer to vote by mail and you do not live in a state where you will automatically be mailed a ballot, request your absentee ballot today. If you prefer to vote in-person, research your options for doing so, as many states have made changes as a result COVID-19.
Finally, if you can, we also encourage you to apply to be an election worker for the November election. Many who have served in this critical role in the past are unable to do so this year because of COVID-19. Even states that mail every registered voter a ballot need temporary workers to process returned ballots. Election workers are paid and perform an integral service to their community.”
