NASED Celebrates the Start of National Voter Registration Month
September 1, 2020
For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, DC – Today marks the start of National Voter Registration Month, which is dedicated to encouraging voter participation and increasing public awareness about state requirements for voting. The National Association of State Election Directors (NASED) reminds voters about the importance of registering to vote:
“In almost every state and territory, voter registration is an important first step for participating in our democracy. The address you are registered at impacts what candidates and races are on your ballot or where you can vote, so it is important that it be up-to-date. We encourage you to take a few minutes and register to vote or check your voter registration information to make sure that it is accurate. If you have moved, changed your name, or if you have not voted recently, updating your voter registration information now will make sure you are ready to cast your ballot this November, whether you vote by mail or in person and whether you vote early or on November 3rd.
If you can, we also encourage you to apply to be an election worker for the November election. Many who have served in this critical role in the past are unable to do so this year because of COVID-19. Even states that mail every registered voter a ballot need temporary workers to process returned ballots. Election workers are paid and perform an integral service to their community.
The election this year may look a little different, but the commitment that state and local election officials have to serving voters remains unchanged.”
