Election Officials Transmit Military and Overseas Ballots for the 2020 General Election
September 18, 2020
For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, DC – Tomorrow marks 45 days before the November 3rd general election, the deadline by which election officials must transmit ballots to our military stationed away from home or living overseas. The National Association of State Election Directors (NASED) issues the following statement:
“The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), as amended in 2010, requires that states send ballots to military and overseas voters no later than 45 days prior to the election. The more than 6 million American voters serving in the military or living overseas face unique challenges, and election officials value our role in ensuring these voters can cast their ballots.
COVID-19 disruptions present new challenges for election officials and voters alike, making it even more important for robust communication between election jurisdictions and their voters overseas. We encourage these voters to reach out to their election officials if they have not already, and leverage resources from the Federal Voting Assistance Program at the Department of Defense.”
